August Publications

ABOUT US

August Publications was formed in 2003 with the launch of Ballpark Digest. Since that time the company has grown from a single employee working out of a home to a diversified publishing firm featuring Websites, books and other merchandise.

Our motto is simple: We enjoy doing cool things and are overjoyed we can make a living doing so.

Our company's offerings are broken along three lines:

Our sports sites include Ballpark Digest, Arena Digest, Football Stadium Digest, Spring Training Online and NWLfan. Our first two books, The Complete Guide to Spring Training and The Complete Guide to Big League Ballparks, are geared toward sports fans as well.

We've recently entered the outdoors market. Our first outdoors site was Yellowstone Insider, a complete guide to America's first national park. Wanderkit is the next step in building up the Internet's best guides to the outdoors.

Our third line is in development. We promise you'll be surprised.

Our Staff

Publisher Kevin Reichard founded August Publications in 2003. (The company is named for his grandfather, August Reichard.) After graduating from Hamline University in 1983, Reichard was an editor at Minneapolis's MSP Publications before embarking on a freelance career that ended up with a multiyear gig as executive editor at internet.com/Jupitermedia. He rode the Internet wave from bottom to top to bottom.

Senior Editor Nelson King is a resident of Cooke City, Montana, where he spends his time following the ins and outs of Yellowstone National Park. Whether it's explaining microbes in the geysers or the migratory patterns of bison in the Lamar Valley, King knows the ins and outs of the nation's first national park.

Senior Editor Jim Robins collaborated on The Complete Guide to Big League Ballparks and The Complete Guide to Spring Training. He is involved in manuscript development and book editing, as well current development of ScooterMaxi.com. His specialty is photography. Previously, Jim was a legislative researcher and writer for the Minnesota Senate, and news editor of the Northfield (Minn.) News. Jim and his wife, Carla, live in Saint Paul.

Creative director Natalie Nowytski joined our team as Creative Director in January 2007 via craigslist, which proves that advertising really does work.  Having been raised by artists, Natalie’s design chops were developed before she could even pronounce the phrase street cred. Peers have described her as a well-rounded and brand-smart creative who tackles even the most challenging projects with integrity and optimism. Colleagues and clients know her as “the one who is on-target.” Friends and relatives know her as "the one who gets to color all day." Her professional life has included an eight-year tenure with Fairview Health Services, in which she served in several marketing and communications capacities while launching Renaissance Jane—a creative agency she owns with her sister, Olenka. Before coming to August Publications, Natalie knew next to nothing about sports. As the creative lead, she is not only learning more about what a good batting average is, but she is also expanding the company brand across various media, including websites, books, advertising, apparel, podcasts and more. She is particularly excited about developing the look and feel of August’s new lifestyle-related websites and books, including those on Yellowstone National Park and the maxi scooter industry.

If Homer: The Small-Town Baseball Odyssey simply covered the inspirational story of the tiny Michigan high school that fashioned a national-record winning streak and captured multiple state titles, it could easily stand by itself. But Jeff Karzen’s tale is about more than just prep baseball. It’s an amazing story of how high-school athletes established a winning tradition and performed with grace and class – despite the small-town politics that almost led to the removal of a dedicated and admired coach.

The inspirational tale is the latest offering from August Publications. Read on for more information, including an offer of free shipping!
